Perforated white ceiling casting patterned light across the wall

Art Perforated Stretch Ceilings

Art perforated stretch ceilings that draw patterns with light

In an art perforated stretch ceiling, a pattern is cut into the membrane. Seen against a dark or lit void, the perforations become graphic points of light and depth, and the ceiling gains a refined, textured look.

What you are seeing

Cut-out sheet over a colour layer

A top sheet cut with an artistic pattern sits close to a background sheet whose colour changes, so the colour shows only through the openings.

What is it?

An art perforated stretch ceiling is a membrane with a designed pattern of small openings, so what lies behind it, whether dark, lit or acoustic, shows through as part of the design.

How it works

  1. A pattern is designed and scaled to your ceiling.
  2. The membrane is perforated to that pattern.
  3. Placed over a chosen backing, such as a lit cavity or an acoustic layer, the perforations take on a different character.

Key design characteristics

  • Pattern created by the perforation itself
  • Backing material changes the look entirely
  • Delicate texture that reads differently from near and far

Benefits

  • A refined, tactile alternative to printed graphics
  • Can pair with acoustic backing
  • Adds visual depth to otherwise plain ceilings

Practical considerations

  • Perforation pattern, size and density affect membrane behaviour and acoustics, so the specification must be confirmed with the supplier.
  • Anything behind the perforations will be visible, so the void is planned to look good.
  • We do not quote acoustic performance for perforated build-ups until it has been verified.

Suitable spaces

  • Restaurants and lounges
  • Hotel areas
  • Showrooms
  • Auditoriums
  • Feature areas in homes

See more on the Spaces We Transform page.

Design possibilities

  • Geometric repeats
  • Organic and floral motifs
  • Gradients of changing density
  • Bespoke logos or shapes

Lighting integration

Light placed behind a perforated membrane shows as points or patterns. Colour-changing light adds a further dimension.

Installation and maintenance

  • A site visit and measurement come first, so the perimeter profile, any bulkheads and every light position can be planned before fabrication.
  • The membrane is made to the measured room and tensioned into the profile on site, usually after wet trades and painting are complete.
  • Because the ceiling sits below the structural slab, the available void depends on the room. Ask for a void check if you plan to add lighting behind the membrane.
  • Dust the surface gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Avoid abrasive pads and solvent cleaners.
  • Keep sharp tools and hot work away from the membrane. Ask us about repairs rather than attempting one yourself.

Technical details

Supplier reference data. We confirm the specification for your project. See full technical specifications.

  • Cut with a cutting plotter, with holes as small as 2.5 mm and sheets up to 500 cm wide
  • A dual-sheet design: a background sheet (coloured lacquer or a lit translucent ceiling) behind an artistically cut top sheet fixed close to it

Details we confirm with you

These details depend on the exact products selected. We confirm them in writing for your project rather than quoting figures in general:

  • Available perforation patterns and hole sizes
  • Acoustic and airflow behaviour of perforated membranes
