Acoustic Stretch Ceilings
Acoustic stretch ceilings for calmer, clearer rooms
Hard surfaces in modern rooms bounce sound around. An acoustic stretch ceiling uses a sound-permeable membrane over an absorbing layer, so the ceiling stays clean and architectural while helping to tame echo and noise.

Sound absorbed by a perforated ceiling
Sound travelling up from the room meets a perforated film over absorbing material and fades instead of reflecting back, while lighting stays integrated.

What is it?
An acoustic stretch ceiling is a membrane designed to let sound pass through it, with an absorbing material behind it that dampens the sound.
How it works
- The room is assessed for how it is used and how reverberant it is.
- A sound-permeable membrane is combined with absorbing material in the void.
- Sound passes through the membrane and is absorbed, reducing reflections from the ceiling.
Key design characteristics
- Looks like a smooth stretch ceiling, with no visible panels
- Can be coloured, finished or lit like other stretch ceilings
- Absorber choice is matched to the room
- Works well alongside concealed lighting and air-conditioning services
Benefits
- Better speech clarity in meeting rooms, classrooms and restaurants
- More comfortable, less tiring spaces
- A neat finish that avoids the look of conventional acoustic tiles
Practical considerations
- Acoustic performance depends on the membrane, absorber and void depth. We do not quote performance figures that have not been verified for a specific build-up.
- For demanding spaces such as recording rooms or auditoriums, ask for an acoustic assessment.
- Stretch acoustic ceilings help with reverberation inside a room. They are not a substitute for sound insulation between rooms.
Suitable spaces
- Open-plan offices
- Restaurants and cafés
- Auditoriums and halls
- Classrooms and training rooms
- Home theatres
- Hotel banquet areas

Design possibilities
- Plain colour finishes
- Printed acoustic membranes
- Lit sections within an acoustic field
- Combined flat and shaped areas
Lighting integration
Recessed or surface lighting can be integrated, but cut-outs and light positions should be planned with the acoustic layer in mind.
Architectural lighting optionsInstallation and maintenance
- A site visit and measurement come first, so the perimeter profile, any bulkheads and every light position can be planned before fabrication.
- The membrane is made to the measured room and tensioned into the profile on site, usually after wet trades and painting are complete.
- Because the ceiling sits below the structural slab, the available void depends on the room. Ask for a void check if you plan to add lighting behind the membrane.
- Dust the surface gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Avoid abrasive pads and solvent cleaners.
- Keep sharp tools and hot work away from the membrane. Ask us about repairs rather than attempting one yourself.

Technical details
Supplier reference data. We confirm the specification for your project. See full technical specifications.
- Stretchable perforated fabric over sound-absorbing material, with lighting integrated.
- Micro-perforated. Suited to general acoustic treatment and mid-to-high-frequency absorption. Catalogue sample: 2 mm × 4 mm pitch, hole Ø 0.1 mm, 250,000 holes.
- Nano-perforated. Suited to high-performance rooms and a broader frequency range, such as medical, technical and high-end acoustic spaces. Catalogue sample: 2 mm × 2 mm pitch, hole Ø 0.4 mm, 500,000 holes.
Details we confirm with you
These details depend on the exact products selected. We confirm them in writing for your project rather than quoting figures in general:
- Sound absorption values (for example NRC or alpha-w) for each membrane and absorber combination
- Fire rating of the membrane and absorber
