What is a stretch ceiling?

A single, seamless membrane, tensioned across the room, that can glow, carry an image, soften sound or take on a shape.

Instead of plaster and paint, a stretch ceiling uses a thin, durable membrane held in a slim perimeter profile. It sits just below the structural ceiling, hiding services and giving a flat, smooth plane that suits modern interiors.

Installation and materials

How a stretch ceiling goes up

Six steps from the manufacturer's installation procedure. The perimeter profile and boxing are fixed first; the film is heated and tensioned last.

    Install the profile and wooden frame

    Fix with nails at about 10 cm intervals.

  2. 2

    Fix the four corners of the film

    The film is held at its corners before heating.

  3. 3

    Soften the film edges

    A heater makes the edges pliable.

  4. 4

    Insert the harpoon into the profile

    The harpoon edge of the film clips into the profile.

  5. 5

    Flatten uneven parts

    The heater is used again to remove ripples.

  6. 6

    Finish and check

    The ceiling is inspected once it is taut and flat.

What is a stretch ceiling?

A stretch ceiling is a thin membrane tensioned across a perimeter profile fixed to the walls. It sits below the structural ceiling and creates a smooth, seamless surface. The membrane can be plain, glossy, printed, translucent or perforated.

Do you provide stretch ceilings in Chennai?

Yes. Pyramid Interiors is based in Kolathur, Chennai, and serves Chennai. For projects elsewhere in Tamil Nadu or India, please contact us to discuss feasibility.

Can I choose my own design or artwork?

Yes. Printed stretch ceilings can carry your own artwork. We review resolution and suitability before printing, and we recommend a proof for large or colour-critical designs.

Can a stretch ceiling be lit from behind?

Yes. A translucent membrane can be lit by LED panels or strips placed in the void above it, creating a luminous ceiling. We plan the light positions and void depth with you.

Can the ceiling include curves or 3D shapes?

Yes. 3D form stretch ceilings can create domes, waves and curved shapes. Each form is reviewed on site for feasibility.

How is the ceiling installed?

After a site visit and measurement, the membrane is made to size. A perimeter profile is fixed to the walls, then the membrane is tensioned into it. Any lighting is installed before the membrane is closed. See our installation page for the full process.
